Laura asks…
If during my period, I miss 2 of the placebo pills and have intercourse, what are the chances of pregnancy?
I missed a blue pill too, but made it up with the dose the next night. Then I started my period the next day and I know the placebo pills do nothing and I missed a couple of those too but didn’t make them up since they’re just sugar pills anyway. During all this, I had sex with my boyfriend and we don’t use condoms often because I have a latex allergy so we rely on the birth control. Now my question is, what are the chances of pregnancy from having sex during the week of placebo pills with no hormones in them whatsoever?

Youre still protected during placebo week as long as you take the rest of them correctly

Is losing weight during pregnancy ok?
I am 11 weeks pregnant. I started at 147lbs, two weeks ago when I went to the doctor i was up to 151, but this entire week i have had a cold and I can’t keep anything but bread and applesauce down. I can’t take my vitamins or my hormone pills because they just come right back up and I right away. I have lost all the weight that I gained and now I am a little worried. Should i be or am i just being a worrywart?

Don’t be alarmed if you lose weight during your pregnancy. I am a plus size woman, and in my first 11 weeks I packed on 26 pounds. Then I got hit with food poisoning and morning sickness around the same time. I lost 28 pounds while I was dealing with that. I since have gained back the 26 pounds.
I asked my OB about this when I was losing weight and he said that everything with the baby looked great, and that the baby would take what it needed from me.
Just be aware that the BABY WILL TAKE WHAT it needs from you, so once you are feeling better get back on your vitamins and make sure you get enough calcium. The baby requires lots of calcium and if you are not getting enough your teeth will be the first place you notice the problem. I have several people in my family that because of their pregnancies they have horrible teeth. I honestly drink about 5 gallons of milk a month, take my prenatals and take 2 tums a day.
Good Luck, Congrats on your blessing and Hope you feel better soon!

Mary asks…
I need help understanding hormones levels during pregnancy, I had a miscarriage and I am confused? Details..
So, I am 23 yrs old and was pregnant for the 1st time, last week i started bleeding, then I went to the doctor on Monday thinking that I had already miscarried, then to every ones surprise there was a baby with a heart beat! That was the 3rd ultrasound that I had done, and that was the 1st time a baby was seen. So I had hope, however the cramping started and point is I had a D&C procedure. Now my question is my hormones levels were dropping down by a lot. I remembered that in February of this year I went to the dr. cause I hadn’t gotten my period for like 5 months! And he gave me pills for my period to come, and blood work, and he said my hormones were a lil low at the time. Now I’m worried that I may have a problem with my hormones. I won’t see my dr till 4 wks, is there any medication for hormones to remain high, cause I do plan to get pregnant again in 3 months. Or once hormones are low you can’t raise them up?

admin answers:
The hormone that dropped was the hormone hCG, which is produced by the body during pregnancy. Normally is it under 5, but when you get pregnant it rises rapidly and doubles every other day or so in the first weeks. A test of a viable pregnancy is to test the level one day then test again 2 days later, to see if it went up appropriately.
If your levels do not rise, or they go down, your body is losing the pregnancy and you have a miscarriage. The body can’t sustain a pregnancy without the hormone.
There is no lasting problem from this. The hormone level itself isn’t a problem, it’s just that it goes down when the pregnancy miscarries for whatever reason.
Another hormone your dr. May be talking about is progesterone. It is required to help the body sustain the pregnancy, it is not produced by the pregnancy. If the levels are low, low enough to cause threat of miscarriage, a supplement can increase the levels enough to have a healthy pregnancy. With my 2nd, I had low progesterone and I took a supplement for the first 12 weeks and now I have a healthy 7-month old.
I became pregnant with her 3 months after I miscarried, with dropped levels of hCG like I talked about before.
So, essentially you more than likely have nothing to worry about. Miscarriages happen for a variety of reasons, and I can’t speak for why you had yours, but as far as the hormones go, it sounds like you are a-ok.

Ken asks…
Progesterone or Estrogen imbalance during pregnancy? Please someone answer.?
Is this possible? Yes, I know that the hormones are all over the place during pregnancy BUT I’ve been suicidal and anxious and suffered from insomnia ever since I was taken off my progesterone pills when I entered my second trimester. I was a fine, happy productive person before I was taken off Prometrium. The timing seems way too coincidental. I’m seeing an endocrinologist tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone had any feedback in the meantime. It be greatly appreciated. I just can’t believe that suicidal thoughts, sleeping only 30 minutes at a time and a panic attack that has lasted a month now is all just pregnancy hormones. Thank you in advance.
Thanks. If there’s too much estrogen in the pregnancy, can it be treated safely?

Wow I never had symptoms this intense coming off prometrium. I did have suicidal thoughts and such when I was on the NuvaRing and the clinician told me it was due to my body not handling the estrogen well and she took me off of it and put me on a progesterone only bc pill (which I got pregnant on a year later lol but that’s another story)
i would think if anything you would be reacting to the extra estrogen your body is producing. I would definitely talk to your doctor about this and tell her because anything so severe it causes suicidal thoughts needs professional intervention. Good luck!
