What’s the best way to get rid of a strep throat?
Yesterday I woke up and had a very bad headache. ( So bad that I could barely walk ) My throat was hurting too, it hurts when I swallow and I think it may either be a strep throat or a sore throat ( I’m not sure though , I get confused between the two ). My mom gave me tylenol ( the liquid kind ) and B1. I slept for basically the whole day yesterday but it still wasn’t getting that much better. Today, when I woke up, it was easy to walk but at times my head will just hurt really bad ( Not for a long time though , like less then a minute and then it stops hurting and then it starts hurting again ). But my throat still hurts when I swallow. I also looked up in yahoo answers and found out that by massaging the fingertips of your hand it relieves the headache. ( I did that and it sort of relieved it ). && that if you eat garlic and drink lots of water it also helps relieve the pain in my throat. So I drank 2 huge glasses of water and I didn’t have a garlic bread so I searched around my house and found one of those garlic dipping sauce ( the one you get in Papa Johns) and I went crazy and just drank half of it ( really hard to do without pizza ). So, can you guys please tell me the best way to get rid of a strep throat or how to quickly recover without using any medicine? Thank you so much .

You can’t. You need antibiotics.

yeast infection or normal discharge during pregnancy?
i am 28 weeks pregnant and i have noticed in the past couple of weeks i have been having alot of white discharge. im not sure if its a yeast infection or if its just excess discharge from the pregnancy. it doesnt have the consistency of “cottage cheese” like you would normally get from a yeast infection but its also not watery either. it doesnt burn when i pee or really itch. i will go a day and get the occasional itch but its more like a “tickle itch” if that makes sense, like the discharge is leaking out and it causes me to itch(sorry if tmi) but its not like the extreme i-gotta-itch-right-now feeling that you get with a yeast infection. does this sound like normal discharge or a yeast infection? i go to the doctor thursday and im going to ask them but i was just curious to see what you had to say.
i have also been having muscle spasms in my back that are sometimes soo painful it makes me throw up. i have already went to the doctor about this b/c it was hurting right around my kidneys but they ran tests and said it was not stones or an infection but they said the only other thing is muscle spasms b/c the weight of my belly is pulling on those muscles. what are some things i can do to relieve that pain? im trying to go without taking medicine unless it is just unbearable. ive only had to take tylenol twice for migraine headaches so any other kind of remedies would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance to those that answer.

I’ve had an ongoing headache for 2 weeks now, help?
I’ve had a non-stop headache for 2 weeks now. It seems to be more painful around my eyes. One more than the other. I’ve been trying to stick it out because I don’t have the money for a doctors visit. Also, I know they will just recommend me to take medicine which I like to avoid taking anything. I was wondering what are some ways to relieve the pain without medication? Also, I’ve had a ongoing sinus infection these past few months. Could the headaches be happening because of that? And, the same question for the sinus infection. How can I find relief from the sinus infection without taking medication?

OK It really depends on the type of headache you have. So I will give you the major types of headaches and the symptoms. It could be sinus. But also look for natural ways to relieve sinus issues.
Migraine- One sided, more common in females, Sensitivity to light, pain behind one eye, throbbing, brought on by bright lights, chocolate, cheese, red wine or menstrual cycle.
Can also have an aura and have a funny taste.
Hypertension- At the top and back of your head. Throbbing. You usually wake up with this headache and after about 3 hours it subsides. Usually caused by High Blood pressure. Need medicines to reduce blood pressure.
Cluster Headache, adolescent to adult, more common in males, one sided, usually over temple or eye area, may have a blood shot eye, wakes you up at night, runny nose, sweating, tearing of the eyes, Worse in spring or fall, lasts 15min- 2hrs. Relief for a little bit and then comes right back.
Muscular tension- A band-like distribution around head (like wearing a very tight head band). Brought on by stress, tension, fatigue, work.
Temporal Arteritis- Only over age 50. One sided over temple area, pain in jaw, burning, aching throbbing, sensitive scalp, fever. Tender arteries. If visual symptoms- go to ER with this one.
Cervicogenic(neck caused)- Pain in upper neck and back of head. Pain when moving the head. Daily, reduced movement in neck area. Brought on by stress, head movement and head alignment. Can mimic a migraine including nausea. If it is a head and neck related alignment you can have temporal headaches or headaches that arc from behind the ear forward. Possible sharp pain behind your ear at the base of the skull along with correlated shoulder pain. Can last for days and weeks at a time until misalignment is corrected. Very little or only short term relief when taking headache medications.
Sinus- Localized, certain positions are worse, steady throb, worse in the morning.
Subarachnoid Hemorrhage- abrupt onset, constant stiff neck, feels like someone hit you in the head, Caused by high blood pressure, stress or aneurysm. Life threatening.
Brain Tumor- Onset morning and evening, varies from mild to severe, may throb, wakes you up at night, symptoms getting worse, neck stiffness worse than ever.
Subdural Hematoma- caused by trauma. It is a slow bleed in the brain. Natasha Richardson died from something like this.
OK now that I have told you the types of headaches. Here is what you do for them.
Migraines, muscular tension, cervicogenic, and some sinus and cluster headaches can be helped by a chiropractor. If it is sinus, you need to ask the chiropractor if they have a sinus/cranial treatment (not all do).
For Hypertension, cluster, temporal arteritis (unless it has visual component) and brain tumor- go see your doctor
For Temporal arteritis with visual impairment, subarachnoid hemorrhage and subdural hematoma, go to the Emergency Room right away.
I hope this helps.
I wish you the best.

Zomig ZMT 2.5 mg dissolvable tablets – How much is the limit within a 30-day period?
I was prescribed Zomig ZMT 2.5 mg (Zolmitriptan) by my Neurologist (along with other medications) to see if maybe they can relieve my migraines. The other two prescriptions she gave me are useless. The one does nothing. And the other is actually an anti-depressant that should help me stay asleep and wake without a headache, but just makes me tired the entire next day.
This seems to be the only medicine that somewhat helps. It takes a while, but it helps. But this is what the website says about how many I can take in a month: “The safety of treating an average of more than three headaches in a 30-day period has not been established.” It doesn’t say anything else. And my Neurologist provided me with a refill that ables me to take 12 a month without going over my prescription. So how do I know how many I can take in a month without over doing it? I’m already on several other medicines, 3 of which I have gotten after I saw her, so she doesn’t know about them. Currently I am on 5 valid prescriptions, 1 I take every day, 1 I take basically everyday but it does nothing, 1 I don’t take anymore because it makes me too sleepy for work, Zomig I am taking not so often but need it more, and 1 that I will run out of by this Thursday. The other 2 she didn’t know about ended already.
So I don’t know how much of the Zomig I can take. So far today I have taken a pain medication that ends Thursday, for something that the Dentist messed up my teeth and put me in excruitiating pain, 1 of the 50 mg pill that doesn’t do anything for my headaches, and I just took 1 Zomig, my 5th one within about a 25 day period. Right now I feel very hot. I have my fan on at work and my body is freezing but my head is burning, I feel very dizzy, I might puke, my head is killing me it feels like someone is drilling in it and squeezing it between two cinder blocks, terrible neck pain, and all that fun stuff. This was going on before I took the Zomig, though. So I don’t think it’s related to Zomig.
I just want to know how much is the limit per month for Zomig. Does anyone know?

There are no limits on the number of pills you can get per month. Your insurance might limit the number they will pay for.
The issue with the triptans is that they aren’t super effective. In the best circumstances, they work 80% of the time.
5 Zomigs a month is quite a lot. My guess is that you are also on amitriptyline and/or topiramate. Those are the best preventative drugs for migraines, currently.

Lisa asks…
Am I allergic to my medication or are these just side effects?
I’ve been taking 25mg of Seroquel for sleep since this past December. The only bothersome side effects I had were a dry mouth, which was tolerable, and some headaches. I stopped for three weeks while adjusting my sleep to work night shift.
I started taking it again three days ago
…..Dry mouth way worse than before
…..lots of water/cough drops don’t help
…..sore throat, hoarse voice
…..deep breaths lead to a deep cough – no phlegm
…..headache not relieved by painkillers or sleep
I’m not sure if this has anything to do with my increased reaction recently so just in case this helps
…My boyfriend also takes Seroquel, but in 100mg tablets. I was getting really stressed and we thought Seroquel would calm me down. I didn’t have mine so I just took one of his tablets. This was 2 weeks ago exactly. 100mg is a pretty low dose compared to what is generally prescribed.
…..slept 2 hours on the car ride home
…..almost fainted walking to bed
…..woke up about 24 hours later
…..mouth and throat were very, very dry
…..still could not stand without feeling faint
…..went back to sleep until it wore off enough
I realize I should have gone to the hospital, but I wasn’t thinking clearly and he did not realize the severity of it. He just thought I was tired. Please don’t tell me he’s a bad bf for giving it to me or anything like that. Please do not comment on how unsafe I was to take someone else’s medicine or how I should have gone to the hospital or anything like that. I know all that and it won’t help to tell me what I should have done. That episode is over and in the past. I only thought it might be related to what‘s going on now. I need to know about what is happening to me NOW and what I should do about this NOW.
The last time I took my 25mg dose was 20 hours ago at this point and my throat is still dry. I’m coughing less than earlier and my headache is mostly gone except for when I stand up quickly.
So again my question is whether or not these effects I’ve felt in the last three days are just side effects or an allergic reaction, and in any case how urgent is it that I see my doctor or a doctor about this? Is it safe to continue taking this medication? The coughing is really just an annoyance compared to my extreme insomnia.

To my best of knowledge the symptoms you are describing are well know side effects of Seroquel. Changing the dosage like you described is very likely to cause this severity in side effects. I suggest you call your doctor and explain the situation and also ask what other medications is safe with Seroquel .
