Your Questions About What Relieves Heartburn

Carol asks…

Need something to relieve stress.?

Lately I have been very stressed. I am 16. I get so stressed my hair stands up and won’t stay down. I’ve been having what feels like heartburn in my stomach. Today I had a headache that lasted all day until I was out with friends and drank a bunch of Mountain Dew. I can’t even work on my woods project, because when something doesn’t work right (the clamps came loose, two days in a row) I just can’t continue. What is something I can do to just calm myself down?
I don’t mind people recomending medication, but due to my age I’m limited on what I can buy.

Stop loading up on sugar and meditate and start jogging.
Sleep lots and eat well.

Am I lactose intolerant?

For the past 3-4 years I have battled and dealt with this feeling I get in my throat. For the longest time I always thought it was heartburn, so I would take tums and it seemed to relieve the feeling. I noticed I would get the feeling after eating Pizza, drinking cokes(this doesn’t really set it off anymore), and drinking milk. Sometimes I can drink 1/2 a glass of milk and there is no feeling there, then other times I’ll take 2 to 4 sips and it kind of feels like my throat swells up (although this prolly isn’t what is really happening). I can also feel the sensation around my chest and kind of up to just below my Adam’s apple. Obviously, the tums don’t do much good in these situations.

Also, I what get a weird feeling in my throat after waking up from a nap. These feelings usually feel more like a burning sensation. Once again, I would take some tums.

Maybe I have acid reflux and I’m lactose intolerant?
Wow, all of these answers were great guys. BTW, I’m not overweight, haha.

Overall, I don’t think this issue is as bad as some of you all may think. When I first thought I had acid reflux, the throat feelings were really bad and happened more often, but those don’t happen as much now and they are never that bad when they do. Also, I had 3 glasses of Mountain Dew today when I ate out (which is the only time I drink soda now), and no throat feeling.

I will probably check out one of those gas- doctors eventually, because I would like to know whats going on. Thanks Guys/Gals, I wish I could pick all to be the best answer.

Oh oh! U can trust me on this answer! I HAVE ACID REFLEX! XD

the burning sensation is acid reflex. The milk, just a coinsidence. For acid reflex, u will ned to get a special x ray of ur stomach after you eat ( it takes about 3 hours. Plus, i cnt remember the name of the x-ray because i did it in 2006) If you DO infact have acid reflex, ull be prescribed a special medication you need to take once a day to stop the pain. Also, sumtimes if u hae acid reflex, u can get EXTREAMLY bad buring sensations in ur intestines. Thats acutlly because acid got in there. You often have to run to the toilet. Sumtimes after a while, you may not have to take ur pill everyday, only if u have a stomach ache. Just to let u know, if u purdge, it can cause acid reflex. So could eating really greasy foods. You may also get indigestion. If u get this, u will get a pain in ur throught or feel like theres a ball in ur throught ( hence, ur question) it happenes alot after you wake up from sleep. You may also get a preasure pain in ur chest. Dont worry, just indegestion. Just lie down, maybe even take a nap ( sumtimes if u go to sleep while having indeguestion, it goes away).

I hope i helped!

Yours truly,
Alexandra

Sandy asks…

What type of sinus and cough medicine to take when you have heartburn…?

I’m currently dealing with heartburn and with the erratic weather we’re having here in Seattle, I think I’m starting to come down with a cough and sinus issues.

Question is, what kind of medicine can I take to relieve the cough and sinus without making my hearburn worse? Is regular robitussin/vick 44 ok to take? Or is there something else that’s better for my situation?
Funny you mention codeine. It’s what started my heartburn (after getting a molar pulled out). I wish someone would’ve told me this about codeine. I’ve also heard it’s horrible on your liver.

admin answers:

Not sure what brand to take, but don’t take anything with codeine in it – it tends to upset the stomach and cause heartburn in many people. Hope you feel better soon :)

Ulcer Symptoms?

Can someone tell me the common symptoms of a stomach ulcer? I think I may have one … I have heartburn all the time and intense nausea after I eat .. so much in fact that I have to take an anti-nausea to avoid vomiting. I have an endoscopy scheduled for the end of January that should tell more on what is going on. In the meantime, does anyone know if this sounds like an ulcer, and what I can do to relieve my symptoms? I do limit caffeine and I don’t smoke. Thank you!

admin answers:

You may have what is called gastric esophageal reflux disease and/or gastritis. As the previous writer said, avoid spicey, acidic foods including tomatoe based products. Also, eat smaller more frequent meals, avoid eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, try cutting out all caffeine(hard to do but it will make you feel better) as well as no alcohol. You may want to try an over the counter med such as Prilosec. It did wonders for me when i had the same symptoms.
Good luck hon. Hope you feel better!
